Stewart Tunnel update
Ithaca's long-stalled tunnel project is approaching the end.
The Stewart Tunnel—a decades-long infrastructure effort—is nearing completion, according to updates shared in community discussions [Quelle: IANST]. The tunnel has been a fixture of local planning conversations for years, with periodic setbacks and budget reviews. Completion would unlock both immediate local relief and potential for downstream regional projects tied to the corridor.
Timeline details should emerge within weeks.
Lansing bans data centers
Lansing Town Board voted to reject data center sprawl.
The board sided with residents opposing large-scale data facilities, citing traffic, power demand, and long-term land use concerns [Quelle: Community]. The move reflects broader tension in the region between development pressure and quality-of-life protections. Neighboring towns now face the same calculus as data companies scout upstate alternatives.
Watch whether Ithaca and other Tompkins municipalities follow.
