Sindarov peaks
Uzbek teenager claims FIDE's 2026 player of the year.
Javokhir Sindarov took the men's Excellence Award after his 2026 Candidates victory, the capstone to a year that vaulted him into world championship contention [Source: FIDE]. The Uzbek's momentum carries straight into the title match. Divya Deshmukh earned the women's award, recognizing India's rising engine on the global stage.
Watch whether Sindarov's form holds under pressure.
Budapest's 24 finalized
The all-format championship tour roster is now complete.
Aronian, Le Quang Liem, Mamedyarov, and three others fill the final six spots in November's pilot field, joining Carlsen and Caruana [Source: Chess.com]. The 24-player bracket blends Fast Classical, Rapid, and Blitz with weighted scoring that rewards classical depth. This format becomes FIDE's global blueprint in 2027.
Classical rating means nothing if you crack under blitz pressure.
Nakamura's anti-cheat complaint
Hikaru Nakamura weaponized humor to mock security theater.
The American called the Candidates' anti-cheating measures "nonsense," joking that body scans and entrance checkpoints treated players like Mossad assets [Source: Facebook]. His jab reflects real friction between FIDE's tightening security protocols and players who feel the burden outweighs the actual threat. The comment sparked backlash online.
Trust erodes when security feels like punishment.
